Roald Dahl is considered by many to be one of the best children's writers of the 20th century. Just a few of his most famous works include, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The Witches and The BFG. Dahl was a fantastically imaginative writer, whose characters include a cigar-smoking grandmother and an eccentric chocolate factory owner. The world that Dahl created is both dark and fanciful:terror lurks in the shadows, but hilarity reigns, a delicious combination that makes Dahls books equally enjoyable for adults and children. In addition to his children's books, Dahl also had a successful career writing short stories for adults that were known for their dark humor and surprise endings. Roald Dahl was born in Wales to Norwegian parents. Dahl's mother told Norwegian folk tales and legends to her children when they were young, and the sorcery and magic of the stories stimulated the imagination of the young author. Dahl later said that the grandmother character in The Witches was based on his own mother.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! James and the Giant Peach is a popular children's novel written in 1961 by British author Roald Dahl. The original first edition published by Alfred Knopf featured illustrations by Nancy Ekholm Burkert. However, there have been various reillustrated versions of it over the years, done by Michael Simeon for the first British edition, Emma Chichester Clark, Lane Smith and Quentin Blake. It was adapted into a film of the same name in 1996. The plot centers on a young English orphan boy who enters a gigantic, magical peach, and has a wild and surreal cross-world adventure with six anthropomorphic insects he meets within the giant peach. Originally titled James and the Giant Cherry, Dahl changed it to James and the Giant Peach because a peach is "prettier, bigger and squishier" than a cherry.

The story revolves around a young boy. This young English boy happens to be an orphan. He comes across a giant magical peach. He enters this peach and experiences a wild and surreal cross-world adventure. During his adventure, he comes across six magically-altered garden bugs. The book was originally titled “James and the Giant Cherry”, but the author changed the title because peach is prettier, bigger, and squishier than a cherry. He thought that peach best suited the plot of the story. The content of the story sometimes happens to be macabre and sometimes frightening. However, it has found its place in the list of top one hundred most frequently challenged books according to the American Library Association’s top 100 list.
